Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about credits, subscriptions, and pricing

Credits & Usage

Credits are the currency used to access our API endpoints. Each API request consumes a certain number of credits based on the endpoint and options used.

You can obtain credits in three ways:

  • Registration bonus: New users receive 150 free credits upon registration
  • Monthly subscription credits: Subscription plans include monthly credit allocations
  • Top-up purchases: Buy additional credits as needed

Credit costs vary by endpoint and features requested. For detailed information about credit consumption:

  • Visit our API Documentation for complete endpoint details
  • Use the Pricing Calculator on our homepage to estimate costs

Tip: The pricing calculator lets you select specific features and see exactly how many credits each request will cost.

Credit expiration depends on your subscription status:

  • With active subscription: Top-up credits and registration credits become non-expiring
  • Without subscription: Credits expire after 31 days
  • Subscription credits: Only available during the active subscription period

Pro tip: Having any active subscription (Plus, Pro, or Max) makes all your purchased credits non-expiring!

When your credit balance reaches zero:

  • API requests will return an "insufficient credits" error
  • You'll need to purchase more credits or wait for your monthly subscription credits to refresh
  • Your data and API access remain intact - you just need to add more credits

You can monitor your credit usage in the dashboard and set up notifications for low credit balance.

Yes, you have full control over your subscription:

  • Upgrade: Change to a higher plan anytime - applies immediately and starts a new billing cycle
  • Downgrade: Switch to a lower plan anytime - applies immediately and starts a new billing cycle
  • Cancel: Cancel anytime, access continues until the end of the billing period
  • Resume: Reactivate a cancelled subscription before it expires

Important: When upgrading or downgrading, remaining subscription credits from your current plan are carried over to the new plan.

All subscription management can be done through your dashboard.

When you cancel your subscription:

  • Monthly credits: Remain available until the end of your billing period
  • Top-up credits: Lose their non-expiring status and revert to their original expiration date
  • API access: Continues as long as you have credits

Warning: Without an active subscription, your top-up credits will expire on their original expiration date (31 days from purchase). Consider keeping a basic Plus subscription to maintain non-expiring credits.

Technical Questions

Non-expiring credits are a subscription benefit:

  • Applies to all purchased and registration credits
  • Credits must be valid when subscription starts
  • Remains non-expiring as long as subscription is active
  • If subscription ends, 31-day expiration resumes

Example: You have 10,000 credits expiring in 5 days. You subscribe to Plus. Those credits become non-expiring immediately!

Credits are consumed in this order:

  1. Subscription credits (if you have an active subscription)
  2. Purchased/registration credits (oldest first)

This ensures:

  • Monthly credits are used before they expire
  • Purchased credits last longer
  • Optimal credit utilization

Credit deduction is automatic and immediate:

  • Credits are deducted when API request is made
  • Transaction is recorded with details
  • Balance updates in real-time
  • Failed requests don't consume credits

The system uses database locking to ensure accurate credit tracking even under high load.

AI mode is an advanced feature available for the fetch-organization endpoint that enhances data retrieval:

  • Provides intelligent data extraction and analysis
  • Enhanced organization information processing
  • Costs an additional 20 credits when enabled (raises search-organizations to 5 credits)
  • Optional on /api/v1/fetch-organization and /api/v1/search-organizations; always active on /api/v1/fetch-person (included in its 15-credit base price)

When to use AI mode: When you need enhanced data analysis and more comprehensive organization insights from the fetch-organization endpoint.

Data & Coverage

Data is sourced from official German registers and public filings, including:

  • Handelsregister (German Commercial Register): Company registrations, legal form, registered address, management, and official announcements
  • Bundesanzeiger (Federal Gazette): Published annual financial statements, balance sheets, and profit & loss accounts
  • Unternehmensregister (Company Register): Official publications and insolvency notices

All data is aggregated and provided through the Fusionbase data platform.

The database covers companies registered in the German Handelsregister, including:

GmbH, UG (haftungsbeschränkt) AG, KGaA OHG, KG, GmbH & Co. KG eG (Genossenschaften) Other entities registered with German commercial courts

Note: Sole proprietors (Einzelunternehmen) and freelancers are only included if they are voluntarily registered in the Handelsregister.

Depending on the company, the following data categories may be available:

Basic info

Name, legal form, address, registration court & number, founding date

Current and former directors/managing directors with tenure periods

Shareholders

Ownership structure with contribution ratios and amounts

Financial KPIs

Revenue, net income, total assets, employee count across years

Balance Sheets & P&L

Detailed financial breakdowns by year

Annual Financial Statements

Insolvency Publications

Recent news articles mentioning the company

Official Publications

Announcements from the commercial register

Not every company has all data categories — availability depends on the company's size, legal form, and public filing obligations.

Financial data (balance sheets, profit & loss, KPIs) is available for companies that are required to publish their annual financial statements. This primarily includes:

  • All GmbH, UG, AG, and KGaA companies
  • Certain partnerships without a natural person as fully liable partner (e.g., GmbH & Co. KG)

The level of detail varies — larger companies typically publish more comprehensive financial reports, while smaller companies may only file abbreviated balance sheets. Sole proprietors and partnerships with a natural liable partner generally have no financial data available.

Shareholder data is primarily available for:

  • GmbH and UG companies: Shareholder lists are filed with the commercial register and include names, contribution amounts, and ownership percentages
  • AG companies: Individual share ownership is typically not registered; only major shareholders may be known from public disclosures

Availability depends on whether up-to-date shareholder lists have been filed with the register.

Data is processed using a combination of automated systems and AI-enhanced extraction:

  • Official register documents and filings are extracted automatically
  • AI is used to structure, enrich, and analyze the information
  • Data from multiple sources is aggregated and kept up to date

While we strive for the highest accuracy, automated processing can occasionally produce minor inaccuracies — for example, from poorly formatted source documents or delays in reflecting the latest filings.
